El avi\u00f3n pertenec\u00eda a la flota de la aerol\u00ednea suiza Ad Astra Aero.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nA finales de 1929 el bar\u00f3n Louis de Rothschild contact\u00f3 con Walter Mittelholzer, de la compa\u00f1\u00eda suiza Ad Astra Aero, acerca de la posibilidad de volar hacia el Kilimanjaro para una expedici\u00f3n de caza. Mittelholzer accedi\u00f3 sin dudar, entre otras razones porque en aquella \u00e9poca el invierno interrump\u00eda seriamente las operaciones de la aerol\u00edneas en Europa. Fue un safari a\u00e9reo de gran estilo, que requiri\u00f3 una profusa organizaci\u00f3n y la instalaci\u00f3n de un campo de aviaci\u00f3n a unos 240 km al SO de Nairobi. Desde all\u00ed, se hicieron catorce vuelos sobre el Serengueti, el Monte Kenya y el Kilimanjaro.
