Por desgracia, tambi\u00e9n era un avi\u00f3n muy sediento de combustible. Se cambi\u00f3 la sobria librea de los aviones por una estridente combinaci\u00f3n de colores rojos y amarillos.La empresa continu\u00f3 navegando en el floreciente mercado del ch\u00e1rter, acompa\u00f1ada por Spantax, Transeuropa y Aviaco, hasta que tropez\u00f3 con la Primera crisis petrolera de 1973.<\/p>\n<p>Hasta entonces, el coste del combustible era un rubro menor de la compa\u00f1\u00edas a\u00e9reas (Boeing lleg\u00f3 a dise\u00f1ar en 1972 un \u00abavi\u00f3n petrolero\u00bb para llevar crudo desde Alaska a las refiner\u00edas del Sur de estados Unidos), pero a partir de entonces se convirti\u00f3 en decisivo. Para sobrevivir, Air Spain deber\u00eda haber conseguido reactores econ\u00f3micos para su flota, como el Boeing 737, pero no hubo tiempo.
