Pero esta publicidad llegaba un a\u00f1o tarde. El Plan de estabilizaci\u00f3n de 1959 termin\u00f3 definitivamente con dos d\u00e9cadas de autarqu\u00eda y los cr\u00e9ditos del Eximbank afluyeron a las aerol\u00edneas para financiar la compra de aviones extranjeros. El nacionalismo espa\u00f1ol vio con desconsuelo como este \u201caceptable\u201d avi\u00f3n 100% espa\u00f1ol consegu\u00eda apenas unas reducidas ventas para el Ej\u00e9rcito del Aire, mientras que Iberia y Aviaco se negaban a formalizar ning\u00fan pedido y se surt\u00edan de Douglas y Convair Metropolitan.<\/p>\n<p>El primer vuelo del Azor, en 1955, se llev\u00f3 a cabo, sin embargo, en un momento de cierto optimismo para la industria aeron\u00e1utica nacional. Este avi\u00f3n relativamente grande, con capacidad para 40 pasajeros a 400 km\/h, culminaba la serie de bimotores cl\u00e1sicos de transporte de CASA, iniciada con el Alcot\u00e1n y el Halc\u00f3n, mucho m\u00e1s peque\u00f1os. CASA estaba entregando las \u00faltimas unidades del bombardero Heinkel 111 y del Junkers Ju-52 y deseaba ponerse a suministrar en serio el mercado nacional, tanto civil como militar, con aviones de fabricaci\u00f3n propia.
