La primera aerol\u00ednea importante fue Gulf Air, que a finales de los 1970s volaba la importante ruta Londres &#8211; El Golfo en sus Lockheed TriStar \u201cGolden Falcon\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Previamente hab\u00eda utilizado Vickers VC-10, revelando la importancia de la participaci\u00f3n de la BOAC en la compa\u00f1\u00eda, que todav\u00eda se llamaba Gulf Aviation. La influencia brit\u00e1nica fue eliminada formalmente en 1973, el a\u00f1o de la gran crisis petrolera. Ese a\u00f1o los cuatro estados del Golfo \u2013Bahr\u00e9in, Qatar, Abu Dabi y Om\u00e1n\u2013 compraron la participaci\u00f3n de la BOAC y se repartieron la propiedad de la nueva Gulf Air a partes iguales. \u00a0Los TriStar sustituyeron a los VC-10, un movimiento cauto porque independizaba a la compa\u00f1\u00eda de Londres pero les permit\u00eda seguir usando los servicios t\u00e9cnicos de BOAC, tambi\u00e9n usuaria del TriStar.
