El avi\u00f3n tuvo su primer vuelo en julio de 1916.<\/h3>\n<p>Tras el \u00e9xito de sus modelos Ca 1, 3 y variantes, Gianni Caproni decidi\u00f3 agrandar su dise\u00f1o b\u00e1sico de tres fuselajes y tres motores con el Ca 4, un avi\u00f3n triplano muy grande (pesaba casi 8 toneladas) que pod\u00eda llevar algo m\u00e1s de una tonelada de bombas en un contenedor situado en el centro de ala inferior, que ten\u00eda la adecuada forma de un ata\u00fad. Se fabricaron entre 30 y 40 unidades.
