La Rep\u00fablica de Alto Volta hab\u00eda sido creada en 1960 sobre una colonia del \u00c1frica Occidental Francesa. Tras unos comienzos muy modestos, pas\u00f3 a llamarse Air Burkina tras el cambio de nombre de la Rep\u00fablica a Burkina Faso (Tierra de los Honrados, o de los Hombres Justos) durante el malogrado gobierno de Thomas Sankara. Tras una quiebra, pas\u00f3 a manos del gobierno burkin\u00e9s y de ah\u00ed a propiedad mayoritaria del Aga Khan Development Network, un gran fondo de inversi\u00f3n propiedad del jefe espiritual de los ismaelitas nizar\u00edes.
