Para ver lo que se ve\u00eda desde este avi\u00f3n volando sobre Namibia, <a href=\"http:\/\/aeropinakes.com\/wordpress\/archive\/en-las-estepas-del-africa-sud-occidental\/\">click aqu\u00ed<\/a>.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A 8.300 km de distancia en vuelo directo\u00a0de Windhoek,\u00a0la ciudad alemana de Dessau, o mejor dicho la casa <a href=\"http:\/\/aeropinakes.com\/wordpress\/category\/firmas\/j\/junkers\/\">Junkers<\/a>, gan\u00f3 la competici\u00f3n para el establecimiento de la primera\u00a0aerol\u00ednea del \u00c1frica del Sudoeste a Port Elizabeth, <em>hub<\/em> de <a href=\"http:\/\/aeropinakes.com\/wordpress\/1934\/04\/26\/resistentes-junkers-para-la-aviacion-comercial-en-sudafrica\/\">Union Airways<\/a>, la competidora local y principal aerol\u00ednea sudafricana, a solo 1.500 km de distancia. El contrato, por una duraci\u00f3n de cinco a\u00f1os a partir de abril de 1931, deber\u00eda servir para conectar el \u00c1frica del Sudoeste con la civilizaci\u00f3n, enlazando\u00a0la capital de la actual Namibia, por entonces bajo administraci\u00f3n sudafricana, con la reci\u00e9n inaugurada l\u00ednea Londres &#8211; Ciudad del Cabo servida por Imperial Airways.<br \/>\nLa nueva aerol\u00ednea se llamar\u00eda South West Africa Airways (SWAA) y empezar\u00eda modestamente con avionetas Junkers A50, que ten\u00edan capacidad para un pasajero y algunos kilos de correo. La l\u00ednea Windhoek &#8211; Kimberley, unos 1.000 km a vuelo de p\u00e1jaro, se alargaba algo pues hac\u00eda escala en Mariental,\u00a0Keetmanshoop y Upington, ya en Sud\u00e1frica esta \u00faltima localidad.<br \/>\nLas cr\u00edticas por adjudicar esta importante conexi\u00f3n a una empresa alemana callaron pronto cuando se supo la composici\u00f3n \u00e9tnica \u00a0de la comisi\u00f3n reunida ad hoc: Dos miembros hablaban alem\u00e1n, dos afrikaner y tres ingl\u00e9s (1). Junkers, que pasaba grandes apuros financieros aquellos a\u00f1os, ten\u00eda un gran programa de expansi\u00f3n internacional aprovechando la excelencia de sus aviones de pasajeros monoplanos y completamente met\u00e1licos, se\u00f1aladamente el <a href=\"http:\/\/aeropinakes.com\/wordpress\/1919\/01\/06\/junkers-f-13-el-primer-avion-comercial-de-la-historia\/\">F-13<\/a> (del cual varios ejemplares fueron enviados a SWAA), el <a href=\"http:\/\/aeropinakes.com\/wordpress\/1930\/09\/15\/la-experiencia-de-los-primeros-pasajeros-aereos\/\">G.24<\/a> y el famoso <a href=\"http:\/\/aeropinakes.com\/wordpress\/category\/firmas\/j\/junkers\/ju-52\/\">Ju-52<\/a>. La conexi\u00f3n Junkers &#8211; Sud\u00e1frica continuar\u00eda hasta la segunda guerra mundial. El contrato entre la administraci\u00f3n del \u00c1frica del Sudoeste y Junkers estipulaba una subvenci\u00f3n de 7.000 libras al a\u00f1o, pero aun as\u00ed el negocio era ruinoso.
